KARACHI, Jan 19: The city government is keen to enter into public/private partnership with foreign as well as local investors for development of Karachi, said City Nazim Mustafa Kamal on Friday.

He said the satisfactory law and order proved conducive for public/private partnership and the government signed agreements worth billion of dollars for mega projects, including the 46-storey IT Tower and 28-km-long Elevated Expressway which would be launched by President Musharraf next month.

He expressed these views while talking to a 15-member delegation of Canada-Pakistan Business Council, who called on him at his office. The nazim said the city government would welcome the cooperation of Canadian government in the development of Karachi. He said the city government could sign agreement and joint ventures with the Canadian government as well as with members of Canada-Pakistan Business Council and industrialists in information technology, education, health, solid waste management, water and sewerage and other sectors.

He said the city government during the last 14 months made close liaison with businessmen as well as industrialists for development of the city.

Mr Kamal mentioned that the all hotels in city were experiencing full occupancy while the Expo Center had also become a centre of international standard exhibitions.
