KARACHI: Sugar mill sale slated

Published January 20, 2007

KARACHI, Jan 19: The sale of Thatta Sugar Mill for Rs96.5 million against even its reserved price of Rs230 million was a proof of anti-people policies and corruption of present rulers who instead of providing employment and resources are disposing public institutions at throw away prices.

These views were expressed by MPA Sassui Palejo in a statement issued on Friday.

Castigating the privatisation policy, she recalled that the sugar mill was a gift of late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

She said it was not only the mill with machinery worth millions of rupees, but also 277 acres agriculture land, a petrol pump, construction machinery, bungalows and labour colony.

Ms Palejo demanded that the auction should be repealed and outstanding salaries of its workers must be paid immediately.
