RAWALPINDI, Jan 17: A milkman was shot dead in a robbery, while cash and valuables were looted by armed men in different parts of the city on Wednesday.

Ansar Abbas was shot and killed by a gang of robbers, who burst into his house in the wee hours of Wednesday at Girja road.

The police said Mr Abbas and his brother Riaz were asleep when three robbers - two of them armed with pistols - jumped into their house and held them at gunpoint.

One of the robbers snatched the cell phone and cash from Riaz and later deprived his brother Ansar of his mobile phone. Mr Abbas was shot twice when he tried to overpower the robbers, a police officer said.

He said the robbers panicked on seeing Mr Abbas fall dead and they escaped leaving the snatched cell phones behind.

A book shop was ransacked by a gang of five armed robbers in R.A. Bazaar. Mr Kamran lodged a complaint with the police that five robbers entered his shop and held him and the other persons present there at gunpoint.

The culprits snatched Rs15,000 and five cell phones and also took away the motorbike of one of the hostages.

Sabir Ahmed, owner of a milk distribution agency, told the Banni police that he was collecting cash from his salesmen when four persons entered in his office and pulled out their pistols.

The robbers snatched more than Rs75,000 from the salesmen and escaped in their car.
