KARACHI, Jan 18: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board chalked out an elaborate plan to ensure uninterrupted water supply and smooth functioning of the sewerage system during Muharram.

While presiding over a meeting of the officials at his office, KWSB Managing Director Brigadier Iftikhar Haider asked all chief engineers to ensure equal distribution of water throughout the city, especially to the Imambargahs and mosques.

The meeting was attended by chief engineer (Bulk Supply) Ali Mohammad Palejo, chief engineer (Electrical and Mechanical) Gulzar Memon and all the four zonal chief engineers.

The zonal chief engineers were directed to undertake surveys of their respective zones, ensuring that no manhole was left without cover. Besides, they were asked to ensure cleaning of all sewerage lines on war footing basis.

The chief engineers were also directed to make special arrangements for supply of water to the areas around Imambargahs, different venues of the scheduled majalis and along the routes of processions.

Chief Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical) Gulzar Memon was asked to ensure uninterrupted pumping of water at all the pumping stations. In case of power outage at the pumping stations, the officials concerned should immediately be informed and alternative arrangements should be made without any delay to avoid water shortage.

The KWSB chief warned that he would monitor the situation and in case of any complaint regarding shortage of water at Imambargahs and mosques or of overflowing gutters in the city, a strict disciplinary action would be taken against the concerned staff.
