TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 14: It was a matter of Rs1 million that coaxed two men to kill their own expatriate relative who had just landed in Lahore from Italy on Dec 23.

Lahore police have dug out the body buried near a shrine in Chak 344-GB, Chuttiana. Ghulam Sarwar from People’s Colony, Faisalabad, was settled in Italy and his family lived in Pakistan. Ghulam Hussain and Qurban, brother and brother-in-law of Sarwar, got Rs1 million from him, saying that his children had been kidnapped, which actually were not. They feared that their deception would be disclosed once he reached home.

When Sarwar did not reach home, his nephew, Tariq Aziz, approached Lahore police, which registered a case against unidentified kidnappers or killers. During the investigation, it was revealed that Ghulam Hussain and Qurban had killed him when he was travelling to his hometown and buried the body near the shrine. A source said that the deceased’s wife was also involved in the murder. — Correspondent
