KARACHI, Jan 14: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal on Sunday asked the officials concerned to accelerate the pace of work at roads in Gharibabad, Liaquatabad and Nazimabad areas so as to complete them before Muharram.

He paid a seven-hour long visit to different city areas to review the pace of ongoing uplift work. He visited Liaquatabad-Nazimabad road and directed the project director of the Tameer-i-Karachi Programme and EDO works and services to accelerate the pace of work and also increase workforce and machinery to complete it at the earliest.

The nazim said that the city government started development work keeping in view the next 50 years. At present, people are facing some problems which are temporary and all major roads being under-construction would be opened for traffic within few days, he added.

Mr Kamal said that storm-water drain system was being laid down on both sides of the Liaquatabad-Nazimabad road. He was also given a briefing regarding uplift work on roads.

He was informed that the final carpeting on different portions of the road from Karsaz to SITE was in the final stage while the installation of streetlights and tree plantation was also in full swing.

The nazim also visited various imambargahs to review sanitary conditions and was informed that the carpeting of roads leading to major imambargahs would be completed before Muharram and the city government was taking all-out measures to facilitate visitors of imambargahs and participants of processions.

Mr Kamal directed the EDO Municipal Services, Masood Alam, to visit at all major imambargahs in the city to monitor the pace of uplift work and submit a report to him on a daily basis.
