SWABI, Jan 12: The Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) is resorting to prolonged power shutdowns daily in the district. Consumers on Friday complained that Pesco had adopted a different policy for each area in the district.

They said that the region was experiencing two to three times power suspension for hours, adding that there was no fixed timing of loadshedding.

“Once the power supply is suspended, we are not sure when it will be restored. It usually takes hours,” they added.

Residents of Maini complained that the power supply was frequently stopped at noon, night and evening, creating numerous problems for them.

They said that on Thursday night the electricity supply was not restored for more than two hours.

When complained, a superintendent of the Topi sub-division said: "We are directed by higher authorities to carry out loadshedding.”

Sources at Pesco said that the company was resorting to loadshedding to cover line losses.

Residents of the remote Gadoon Amazai mountainous belt are badly hit by the prolonged power shutdown and their complaints are not heard by Pesco officials.

The people of Yar Hussian, Tordher, tehsil Chota Lahor, Salim Khan, Shewa, Tarraki, Kernel Sher Kili, Marghuz and other areas have also complained of unscheduled loadshedding.
