Nestle to takeover Scholler

Published October 20, 2001

VEVEY, Oct 19: Swiss food giant Nestle has “succesfully completed” negotiations to take over the German Scholler food group, the Swiss company said in a statement on Friday.

Nestle said it will buy 100 per cent of Scholler, which specialises in ice creams and frozen foods, from German group Sudzucker, subject to regulatory approval.

In 2000, Scholler Group’s sales amounted to $1.3 billion.

Most of its activity in 17 north and central European countries is centred on Germany, where it is number two in sales for ice creams behind Unilever-owned Langnese.

Nestle thus improves its position as number two player in the ice cream sector worldwide, which counts among the strategic growth areas of the Group, Nestle said.—AFP
