GUJRANWALA, Jan 8: A prompt reaction by police ensured the recovery of the son of a civil judge in Wazirabad on Monday. Five-year-old Abdullah, son of Civil Judge Umor Sharif, was playing outside his house when unidentified people reportedly kidnapped him. On receiving information, district and sessions court Judge Mazhar Hussain Minhas and SP headquarters Abdul Qadir Qayyum reached the crime scene in no time, while police began search for the boy and kidnappers in the city.
Seeing tight security in the city, the kidnappers left the boy near a cinema and fled. A case has been registered and investigation is under way.
ACQUITTED: An anti-terrorism court acquitted four people, including the Sialkot district nazim’s nephew, of terror charges when witnesses changed their statements.
According to prosecution, accused Suleman Cheema, Azam, Imran and Suresh Kumar beat army officer Umor Aziz and constable Muhammad Asghar and damaged their vehicles in Sialkot on Oct 23 last.
Police had arrested them under terror charges and sent charge sheet against them to the ATC-2.
INNOCENT: A local court acquitted former MPA Mian Manzer Javed and his brother Mian Tariq Mehmood on a fake certificates case when prosecution could not prove charges.
Civil Lines police had registered the case against the brothers on charge of possessing bogus matriculation certificates.
TEACHERS: Schoolteachers have announced that they would take out a protest rally in Lahore on Wednesday to press their demand for teaching allowance, according to Muttahida Asataza information secretary Muhammad Ibrahim Saqi.
The rally will emerge from Data Darbar and culminate at the Assembly Hall wherein teachers from across the province will participate.
He urged the Punjab chief minister to release teaching allowance in accordance with his promise. He said the protest movement would continue till the acceptance of their demands.
POLICE: Police claimed to have busted 868 proclaimed offenders and 871 court fugitives besides 250 tramps during a drive in a fortnight and seized a huge cache of illicit arms and narcotics from them. Additional IG Malik Iqbal told reporters on Monday that a hand grenade, nine kalshnikovs, 111 rifles, 108 guns, 128 revolvers, 584 pistols, 50 carbines and 8,523 rounds were seized from them.
