KARACHI, Jan 8: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said that the city government is spending huge amounts from development funds to strengthen the city’s infrastructure and covering all areas, even those which do not fall in its jurisdictions and those supposed to be developed by various cooperative societies. The objective is to resolve peoples’ problems.

He was talking to the residents of Jaffer Tayyar Society, which he visited on Monday. The nazim observed certain cooperative societies had initiated no development work for strengthening infrastructure of their respective lands which was causing hardships to people.

He pointed out that no development work had ever been carried out by any civic authority in the Jaffer Tayyar Society. However, he added, it was the present city government that had initiated several uplift projects here to resolve the problems being faced by the residents of this locality.

Without realising the requirements of this locality, he noted, the previous governments had laid a sewerage line that measured just six-inch-dia and this had proved quite a thin one considering the load of such a densely populated area.

But now, the city government was replacing it with a 24-inch-dia pipeline and would ensure completion of the work before the advent of Muharram.

He directed the officials concerned to complete the repairing of sewerage lines, carpeting of roads and cleanliness work before the deadline
