Rs7 million for vet hospitals

SIALKOT, Jan 6: DCO Maj Rizwanullah Baig (retired) has allocated Rs7 million funds for the repair and renovation of all dilapidated buildings of veterinary hospitals and dispensaries in the Sialkot district.

The DCO took the decision while presiding over a meeting of the officials concerned after taking a serious notice of a press report regarding the miserable condition of veterinary hospitals and dispensaries in Sialkot.

EDO (Finance) Rana Azhar Ali, EDO (Agriculture) Ehsan Ahmad Laghari and Livestock department officials also attended the meeting.

The DCO expressed grave concern over the rundown buildings of various veterinary hospitals and dispensaries, especially in Satrah, Buddha Goraya villages and other parts of the district. He also directed immediate appointment of veterinary doctors and other staff in those facilities.

He also allocated special funds of Rs2.9 million for the early provision of veterinary medicines.

The DCO also set aside a Rs3 million grant for the repair of buildings of the Agriculture department in the district.

Later, Rizwanullah Baig told journalists that the district government would soon establish two more veterinary health centers at Shehzada and Prel villages in Pasrur tehsil at a cost of Rs1.27 million.

In addition, he said that Rs4.27 million would be spent on the development of livestock and dairy development in the district.

SEMINAR: A seminar on “labourers’ rights, their protection and implementation on social compliance” was held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Saturday under the auspices of “Pakistan Institute of Labour Education & Research” (PILER), Karachi, in collaboration with the SCCI and CSDO.

A large number of representatives of various trade and labour bodies attended the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, SCCI’s acting president Dr Sarfraz Bashir, CSDO and PILER officials said that industrial workers and labourers were playing a pivotal role in strengthening the national economy.

They underscored the need for making necessary legislation for protecting the rights of industrial workers and labourers.
