RAWALPINDI, Jan 6: The police here on Saturday said they have solved the mystery of a kidnapping for ransom case and recovered the female medical student abducted last month. The police said they arrested Shah Nawaz, an activist of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and a resident of Indian held Kashmir, and recovered the girl.
The girl, a student of a homeo college in Satellite Town, went missing after leaving home for the college last month. On the following day, the kidnappers contacted her parents and demanded Rs2 million ransom for her safe return.
The New Town police had registered an FIR and sealed it.
Rana Shahid, DSP, who was leading the investigation into the case, said the missing girl and her abductor have been recovered by the police.
“It was not a kidnapping for ransom case, as Shah Nawaz had come to Rawalpindi and developed relations with the girl and sent the marriage proposal to her family. But his proposal was turned down. Later, Shah Nawaz abducted the girl,” said the investigating officer.
The girl’s parents had approached the prime minister after their hopes of finding their daughter by the police had faded.
