Cut in LPG prices demanded

Published January 7, 2007

RAWALPINDI, Jan 6: Representatives of traders on Saturday demanded cut in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). In a statement, they said that the ‘illogical’ raise in the LPG prices would cause high inflation in the country.

President Traders Organization Rawalpindi Atiq Siddiqui, Masud Akhtar Osmani and Zahid Akhtar said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had abandoned 5 per cent import duty on LPG in a bid to cut its prices. The LPG and POL prices had been reduced by 30 per cent at international level but in Pakistan their prices are on the rise.

The traders demanded of the government to take notice of the ‘skyrocketing price-hike’ and give incentives to the business community.

Raja Zahid urged the government to take notice of the bargain between the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and marketing companies, and give mandate to the National Accountability Bureau and the Public Accounts Committee to probe into the price-hike.—Online
