LARKANA, Jan 5: The 79th birth anniversary of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was celebrated across the country on Friday under the auspices of different factions of the Pakistan People’s Party.

Provincial and district chapters organised seminars, mushairas and sporting events to honour the PPP leader’s memory. The party’s leaders and office-bearers representing various regions of the country laid wreaths at Mr Bhutto's grave in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Larkana.

Speakers paid tributes to the former prime minister for his services to Pakistan and the Ummah. They said Mr Bhutto worked for the have-nots and paid for this `sin’ with his life.

Speaking at a cake-cutting ceremony at the residence of MPA Haji Munawwar Ali Abbasi in Larkana, PPP’s Sindh chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the poor cherished Mr Bhutto’s memory because of his `sacrifices and services’.

Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that not only Pakistan but also the entire Muslim world was proud of Mr Bhutto.

KARACHI: Leaders of the PPP pledged at a function in Karachi to continue their struggle against ‘dictatorship’ and to bring Benazir Bhutto back to Pakistan (our reporter adds).

The Leader of Opposition in the Senate, Raza Rabbani, said Z.A. Bhutto had waged a struggle against Ayub Khan and Yahya Khan and his daughter continued this struggle against Ziaul Haq.

He said the PPP would continue its struggle for restoration of ‘undiluted democracy’.

The leaders cut a 79-pound cake on the occasion.
