Forensic science agency

LAHORE, Jan 5: The Punjab cabinet on Friday decided to set up an independent forensic science agency to help investigate crimes on scientific lines. Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi who presided over the cabinet meeting said the agency would ensure “validity and impartiality of evidence” to help eradicate crimes. The agency would also help courts in examining and corroborating evidence, the CM added.

Headed by a director-general, the agency will also get support from international experts. Main target of the agency will be collection of data of those detained in provincial prisons on charges of involvement in heinous crimes.

The chief minister directed IGP Ahmad Naseem to utilise all resources available to him to curb heinous crimes, especially kidnap for ransom. He further directed the IGP to speed up ongoing drive against cattle thieves.

The cabinet also approved involvement of private sector in the protection of wildlife. “It will help boost recreational activities and tourism,” the chief minister hoped.

The chief minister directed early completion of development works at Lal Suhanra Park, Bahawalpur and Lahore Park.
