QUETTA, Jan 5: A bench of the Balochistan High Court has ordered the secretary of the provincial transport authority (PTA) of Balochistan to ensure that vehicles plying on highways should not exceed the speed limit fixed by the concerned authority.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani ordered on Friday on the petition of Najibullah Khan that violation of the speed limit would be considered as contempt of court.

The superintendent of traffic police of Quetta, Azam Khan, submitted a report in the court in which he stated that the speed limit on the highways has been fixed for coaches, buses and vans.

The petitioner submitted that owing to over speeding on highways by buses and coaches between Kalat and Wadh and Bela and Karachi causes accidents in which passengers lost precious lives.
