KARACHI: Pensioners face problems

Published January 5, 2007

KARACHI, Jan 4: Thousands of pensioners of the Pakistan Railways, Karachi division, are running from pillar to post to receive their pension. Of late, the railways has entrusted the National Bank with making payment of pension of retired railway employees.

However, when the retired employees went to the respective NBP branches to receive the pension amount, they were told that they had not yet received policy for this purpose from the railway authorities.

The manager of the NBP Gulshan-i-Iqbal branch told a pensioner that the bank had not yet received the list of pensioners who used to get pension at the Karachi Cantonment Station outlet of the railways.

According to a pensioner, the assistant account officer, divisional office, Karachi Railway Division, told the pensioners that they had not yet sent the list of the bona-fide pensioners to the bank branches.

Previously the retired railway employees used to get pension from the respective railway stations and they used to face no problem in this regard.

However, recently the ministry of railway had announced that from Jan 1 the pensioners would receive their pension amount through National Bank branches.

Pensioners have urged the railway authorities to ensure that they are paid pension on the first day of every month.

Train time change: Pakistan Railways changed the time of departure of Jinnah Express at 2pm instead of 10pm from Karachi Cantt. It will be imposed only for one day for Jan 8.—APP
