LAHORE, Dec 29: A girls primary school at a village in Faisalabad has become functional more than 10 years after its establishment following the appointment of a teacher on the intervention of Punjab Ombudsman Abdur Rashid Khan.

Mehr Ejaz Ahmad Sial lodged a complaint with the ombudsman that a girls primary school was established at his village Chah Ahmedwala, Samundri tehsil (Faisalabad), in 1995. A building was raised for the school at a cost of Rs500,000 on 1.5-kanal land donated by the residents of the village.

The government sanctioned two posts of lady teachers for the school in 1998. Both of them, however, got themselves transferred to other schools immediately after posting. Mr Sial requested the ombudsman to direct the executive district officer (education), Faisalabad, to post teachers at the school so that it could become functional.

The EDO said in his initial response that the finance department had been approached for the sanction of funds for appointment of teachers at the school. Later, he informed the ombudsman that the government had sanctioned two posts of lady teachers for the school. It had, however, been made functional by appointing a lady teacher temporarily and 44 girl students had been admitted to it. — Reporter
