SAHIWAL, Dec 26: Dozens of protesters demanded on Monday the suspension of a woman doctor who allegedly failed to provide a medico-legal certificate for a woman in time who later died without getting any medical aid.

Bashiran was taken to Sahiwal District Headquarters Hospital with life-threatening injuries after her mentally retarded brother, Liaqat Ali, cut her arm and a leg and broke jaws with an axe.

Surgeons referred her to the Mayo Hospital in Lahore, and asked the relatives to arrange an ambulance. Bashiran, however, could not be transported as a medico-legal of the injured was necessary for shifting her to Lahore.

The woman doctor who was to carry out the needful turned up two hours late. When the document was ready and the injured was being shifted to the ambulance, she died near the bicycle stand in the hospital.

The relatives of Bashiran protested and demanded the suspension of the staff responsible for the delay. Police registered a murder case against Liaqat, now at large.

HUNGER STRIKE: The family of a murdered man has threatened to set up a hunger strike camp on the occasion of the prime minister’s arrival in the city if police fail to arrest alleged killers.

Sultan and his family told a press conference on Monday his son, Afzal, had been killed on Dec 7 and accused Mumtaz, Iftikhar Chakri and Naveed were hurling threats to the family and police was delaying the arrest of the accused. He said the family would commit self immolation if the accused were not arrested. They also demanded the suspension of the investigating officer.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is due in the city in Dec to attend a wedding ceremony on the invitation of Federal Minister of Science and Technology Chaudhry Naurez Shakoor Khan.

Akbar and Dil Muhammad from Sharif Colony Noorshah also died of the cold. Intermittent rain and hail storm also damaged crops in 5-L and 4-R distributaries.
