PESHAWAR, Dec 23: The NWFP University of Engineering and Technology has officially launched its first Robotics Club, with the objective of promoting research in the field of robotics.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Syed Imtiaz Gilani, said at the launching ceremony of the club that his institution had the cutting-edge equipment needed by the club.

The students should take advantage of the equipment and get trained in the disciplines of electrical, mechatronics and mechanical engineering. He said the club members would be provided maximum financial support by the university administration, according to a press release.

Umar Ibrahim – a lecturer and who is also the club’s president – said robotics was an expanding field. The introduction of smaller, more powerful and low-cost microprocessors had made robotics an affordable recreational activity at universities.
