KARACHI, Dec 21: With technological advancements, the importance of radio is increasing and the government is therefore, duty bound to make it more effective by liberating it from official clutches.

These views were expressed by speakers on the second and final day of the conference on 100 years of radio here on Thursday.

The speakers urged the government to simplify the licence issuing procedures for new channels, so that maximum areas of the country could be covered.

The second day programmes were divided into different sessions, which were addressed among others by Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Javed Jabar, A.H Kazmi, Prof Shah Jehan Syed, Profr Mehmood Ghaznavi, Anjum Zia, Younus Bendhani, Farah Naz, Hafeez Baloch, Abdi Rizvi, Awais Aslam, Nehal Ahmad, Dr Altamash, Anwar Sajjad, Khwaja Shahid Hussain, Talat Hussain, Jehan Ara,Agha Nasir, Yasmeen Tahir, and Hafiz Memon,

The speakers said that radio had always played a vital role in educating people living in backward areas and promoting of indigenous culture. There are many areas in the country where people are avid radio listeners and have no access to television, they said.
