KARACHI, Dec 20: The Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production held two days of meetings and visited naval installations at Karachi and Ormara on December 19 and 20.

The committee was led by its chairman, Senator Nisar A. Memon. The members who joined him were: senators Rukhsana Zuberi, Syed Dilawar Abbas, Naeem Hussain Chattha, Kamran Murtaza and Asif Jatoi.

They held meetings with Vice Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Muhammad Haroon and discussed various ways and procedures for further strengthening the PN to make it a strong maritime force.

They visited the Pakistan Fleet Headquarters, PN Dockyard and the Jinnah Naval Base at Ormara.

The committee was received by Pakistan Navy Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Asaf Humayun and PN Dockyard Commander Rear Admiral Mahmood A. Khan.

The members were given detailed briefings on the role, organisation and strategic significance of the PN’s Logistics Command.

They were acquainted with indigenous construction capabilities and infrastructure of the PN Dockyard with special emphasis on Agosta 90-B submarine construction project.—APP
