LAHORE, Dec 18: Hanjarwal police claimed on Monday to have arrested three kidnappers of an FC College student and seized Rs2.2 million from them. According to a police announcement, Usman Murtaza, Shoaibur Rehman and Nasir Iqbal kidnapped Jehangir Arshad from Mustafa Town on Dec 14 and detained him at a flat in Garden Town.
They called Jehangir’s uncle, Zaman Chattha, and demanded Rs10 million ransom for his release, hurling life threats in case of contacting police. But Mr Chattha contacted police secretly and a case was registered on Dec 15.
The captors and his uncle agreed on Rs2.4 million ransom, which he paid to them on Dec 16 at Shah Jamal. The accused after receiving the money released Jehangir.
Police later traced the phone calls and arrested the accused with Rs2.2 million ransom on Monday. The accused said they had spent Rs200,000 from the ransom. But Dawn learnt that Jehangir had faked the kidnapping to extract money from his US-based father for his lavish lifestyle.

Police said Haroon Rasheed, 40, an electrician in the army, was living at 12-A LDA Gulberg-II. They claimed that Haroon took disinfectant after falling out with his wife over some domestic issue. He was rushed to the CMH where he died.
