KOHAT, Dec 18: Smugglers broke through a police cordon near Lachi and managed to flee the area, leaving behind a huge consignment of arms and drugs on Monday. On a tip-off, police surrounded the Algada area in Lachi. They tried to stop two groups of five men each, carrying gunny bags on their backs, but the smugglers fled towards the nearby mountains.

The alleged criminals left behind their bags, which contained 10 Kalashnikovs, three rifles, 10 shotguns, four guns, 10 pistols, 5kg of hashish and half a kilogramme of heroin. The Lachi police registered a case against the accused.

PROTEST: A large number of people from 11 villages of the lower Orakzai Agency blocked a road for five hours in protest against unannounced loadshedding and complete blackout in some areas for the last several weeks. The protesters urged the Tribal Electric Supply Company to restore power supply to their areas.
