KARACHI, Dec 18: Four persons, including a couple, died after consuming spurious liquor in a shanty town in Clifton on Monday. Police said the couple, Lakshman, 70 and Kamila, 50, and their relatives, Ramash Ramlal and Birju, fell unconscious after consuming the liquor at the couple’s home in KMC Compound, in the limits of Boat Basin police, on Monday. They were rushed to Jinnah Hospital where they were pronounced dead. The victims were sanitary workers.

Police were trying to ascertain from where they obtained the liquor. Residents said the deceased purchased the liquor from a wine store near the Clifton Driving Licence Branch.

ACCIDENTS: Three persons died in two accidents in different parts of the city on Monday.

On Super Highway, a Shikarpur-bound oil taker collided head-on with a truck near Nooriabad Industrial Zone early in the morning. Drivers of both the vehicles died on the spot. The tanker driver was identified as Naimatullah and the truck driver as Zulfiqar. Two other persons were injured in the accident and shifted to the Civil Hospital, Jamshoro.

The accident caused disruption in the movement of vehicular traffic and returned to normal after the vehicles’ wreckage was removed.

A 38-year-old man, Imtiaz, died after being knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle on National Highway.

According to police, Imtiaz was crossing the road when hit by the vehicle. His body was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital.
