PESHAWAR, Dec 13: The NWFP Assembly secretariat has forwarded the Khyber Medical University bill to the governor for his assent, officials said. “The bill was adopted recently and sent on Wednesday to the governor for his assent,” said an official of the provincial assembly.

The governor has to give his assent within a month to make it an act or re-route it to the provincial assembly in case of any reservation.

“The Khyber Medical College will be upgraded to the university level. Its upgradation had been announced by two former prime ministers and President Pervez Musharraf,” said a source at the KMC.

A KMC teacher said: “We do not recieve the Rs3 billion annual grant which is being given to all universities by the Higher Education Commission and other grants given by the ministry of science and technology,” said the teacher, adding that the entire budget for medical education in the province was less than Rs1 billion.—Correspondent
