JI plans campaign against by-poll

Published December 13, 2006

KHAAR, Dec 12: The Bajaur Agency chapter of the Jamaat-i-Islami has announced that it will launch a campaign in protest against holding of by-poll in NA-44 scheduled to be held on Jan 10.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, JI NWFP Naib Amir Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid and Maulana Waheed Gul said the party would observe Jan 10 as a black day.

They claimed that people would not allow voting.

The NA-44 had fallen vacant after Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid, MNA, resigned from the assembly in protest against the bombing of a madressah near his village in Bajaur on Oct 30 in which over 80 people were killed.

They said the Jamaat had started holding jirgas in different areas of the agency to mobilise the tribesmen against the by-poll.— Correspondent
