KARACHI: Riaz Rafi at Zenaini

Published December 13, 2006

KARACHI, Dec 12: Riaz Rafi’s solo art exhibition opens today (Wednesday) at the Zenaini gallery at 5pm.

Rafi’s work is his tribute to the 2000-year old sculptures and picture galleries in the Ajanta and Ellora caves in India. His medium is acrylic on canvas and wood and using brush, hands, nails, scrap, washing with chemicals, Rafi has created rhythmic, haunting figures of women.

Some paintings are encased in 100-year-old antique frames. The art is an amazing combination of modernity and antiquity.

The exhibition will be on for 10 days. It is dedicated by Rafi to Latif Kapadia with the words: A part of me died with him, a part of him lives with me.
