KARACHI, Dec 12: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has directed the authorities concerned to increase the number of doctors and paramedics at the Trauma Centre of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to provide improved and efficient services to patients.
He issued such directives during a surprise visit to the trauma centre on Tuesday. He met patients being treated in the emergency department and inquired after their health.
He also asked patients and their relatives about the availability of medicines to them and the attitude of doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital.
The nazim also constituted a team comprising civil, electrical and mechanical engineers for the maintenance of the trauma centre and said the team would inspect the hospital daily. He said the team would be responsible for any fault in the system and it was their duty to maintain a high standard of the centre.
Mr Kamal said the provision of better healthcare facilities to the people of the metropolis was his top priority and for this purpose the city government was spending billions of rupees to revamp the government-run hospitals and dispensaries.
During the visit the nazim was told that construction work for upper storeys of the hospital and trauma centre was under way to increase the existing capacity of the hospital up to 900 beds. He was also informed that the building for a blood bank, a laboratory and an X-ray centre was under construction and all the required machinery had been procured.
INVESTMENT: Mustafa Kamal offered Croatian government and its business community to invest in Karachi and assured them of full support on behalf of the city government in all projects.He was talking to the ambassador of the Republic of Croatia Marjan Kombol at his office on Tuesday. The ambassador showed his government’s readiness to invest in different sectors in the metropolis.
Mr Kamal said the city government would support all projects initiated by foreign companies under the public-private partnership.
The ambassador said Croatia had the latest technology and was ready to invest in different sectors in the metropolis.
“We will cooperate in education, health, water and sewerage and other sectors to utilize our expertise and technology besides the exchanging of delegations to enhance the cooperation in hotel management and tourism sectors,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh Saqib Ali also called on the city nazim and discussed issues of mutual interest.
He expressed hope that the friendly relationship between Karachi and Dhaka particularly in trade sector would improve. He also invited Mr Kamal to visit Dhaka.
The nazim accepted the invitation and underlined the need for improvement in trade and diplomatic relations.
