SAHIWAL, Dec 8: A man, with the help of his two sons, burnt to death his daughter on the advice of a faith healer who said she was possessed by an evil spirit.

Police said Surayya, 30, of Chak 1/10, used to have fits. She was engaged but she reportedly refused to marry and torched the dowry.

Her father, Jamal, took her to the faith healer in Kamalia, who said she was possessed by an evil spirit and if she was burnt, the fire would cause no harm to her but it would burn the evil spirit.

On Wednesday, when Surayya had fits again, Jamal and his sons Ashraf and Sharif injured her with an axe and set her on fire. She died from the burns.

Harappa police arrested the three and registered a case against them.

They were presented before a local magistrate who remanded them in custody for four days.
