KARACHI, Dec 8: Scrutiny of the land records pertaining to Karachi will be completed by December 15 and in the next phase, with the computerisation of the land revenue records, a strict check on any manipulation by the ‘land mafia’ would become easy.

This was stated by officials at a high-level meeting presided over by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad here on Friday at the Governor’s House to review the progress of work on computerisation of land records in the province. A sum of Rs40 million has been earmarked this year for the process.

The governor directed all districts in the province to prepare their master plans for which the provincial government would extend all necessary assistance.

The programme of computerisation had been initiated in 2004, initially in five districts -- Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Khairpur and Larkana -- on the basis of the revenue bills. Later on, the scope of the process was extended to cover maintenance of record of rights, mutation process, revenue and village forms, Agriculture credit programmes, statistics of crops, etc.

Member Board of Revenue (RS Wing) Mr Shafquat and EDO Revenue Karachi Mr Saleh Farooqui briefed the meeting about the programme.

The meeting was informed that the maintenance of record of rights would be determined through the revenue management information system which would be made available online to help settle disputes.

According to the programme, under the REMIS, about three million khatedars (tillers) would be enrolled from 121 talukas of 23 districts in the province and the data storage would be set up in Hyderabad and Karachi.

The data would be linked with all district systems.
