LARKANA, Dec 7: A raiding party formed by the district and sessions judge recovered on Thursday five people illegally detained at the Qambar police station and asked SHO Altaf Dero to appear in the court on Dec 8 with documents, if any, showing arrests of the people.

Faiz Mohammad Rind of the Ansari locality in an application to the sessions judge of Qambar had stated that the SHO had arrested his relatives — Irshad, 30, Murtaza, 8, and Naveed, 22, all brothers — and kept them in habeas corpus. He said when Bakhtawar, their mother, went to the police station to serve them food, she was also detained.

Raid commissioner Ali Mardan Sangi found the three brothers in the police lock-up and their mother in a nearby police quarter. He also found another man, Shahid Gopang, kept illegally in the lock-up. Signs of torture were visible on the body of Murtaza.

The duty officer could not produce any documents validating their arrests.—BoC
