Published December 8, 2006

The Sixth KaraFilm Festival inauguration ceremony, Tammanna Ka Chhatta Qadam, was held last evening in the Mohatta Palace Museum grounds. Organised under the aegis of the KaraFilm Society, the KaraFilm Festival is a ‘celebration of the moving image and storytelling.’ It promotes filmmaking amongst amateurs attempting to make a career in this genre of electronic media. The society encourages creativity while asserting on high standards of filmmaking among the filmmakers. While promoting and ‘protecting’ film as an art form in Pakistan, KaraFilm board members also encourage alternative cinema, as such most of the films screened during the festival are those which depict society’s struggling issues. The festival also turns into a learning opportunity for filmmakers who converge to the city from different parts of the globe to screen their private ventures, The KaraFilm Society — besides screening movies for the general public — will also be holding talks and workshops on issues affecting electronic media in Pakistan. Inset: Members of the Indian delegation.
