PESHAWAR, Dec 6: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed building of the provincial assembly. NWFP Assembly Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan, provincial chief secretary, MPAs, district nazim and officers of different departments attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the need for a new building was felt since long because the capacity of the old one, constructed in 1935, was insufficient to accommodate the existing number of lawmakers, said an official handout.

Mr Durrani said the provincial assembly had completed four years for the first time, adding that it would complete its tenure. “We as members of the assembly should demonstrate seriousness and abstain from indulging in anything that may harm the sanctity of the house,” he said.

BUILDING COST: Speaker Bakht Jehan said at the ceremony that the new building had been constructed at a cost of Rs360 million, adds APP. He said Islamic calligraphy would be adorning the walls and ceilings of the new assembly hall.
