Rains slow down trains

Published December 6, 2006

LAHORE, Dec 5: Widespread rains throughout Monday badly affected the rail traffic, delaying the arrival of major trains at the Lahore railway station by eight to 13 hours even on Tuesday.

The worst affected was the Karachi Express (15-Up) that was due here at 10:50am on Tuesday, but the railway officials said the train was expected to reach Lahore at 3:30am on Wednesday. The Khyber Mail (1-Up) was due at 9pm on Tuesday but likely to arrive here at 5:30am on Wednesday. The Sindh Express (6-Down) arrived at 4:35pm on Tuesday instead of 12:15pm on Monday.

The Allama Iqbal Express (9-Up) could reach Lahore at 10:15pm instead of its scheduled time of 8:30am, the Tezgam (7-up) at 8:45pm instead of 1:40pm, while the Karakoram Express (41-up) could not reach Lahore till the filing of this report at 10:30pm. Its scheduled time was 8:30am.

Freight and container trains also reached their destinations quite late. — Staff Reporter
