SUKKUR, Dec 5: The three-day annual Urs (death anniversary) of prominent Sufi poet Faqir Qaqir Bakhsh Bedil will be held in Rohri from Friday December 8 to Saturday 10.
The Sukkur district government has declared a local holiday on Friday, the opening day of the colourful Mela which attracts devotees from all over Sindh and also from India.
The 19th century religious scholar, Bedil, adopted the ecstatic way of the sufi after falling in love with a Karam Chand, an episode reminiscent of the love affair of Sarmad and Shah Husain.
His captivating poetry, particularly the Basanat songs vocalised by Abida Perveen, are popular among the enthusiasts of sufi music.
