SIALKOT, Dec 4: Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Tariq Ikram has said that under a comprehensive plan 11 effluent treatment plants will be installed in major industrial towns in near future to check environmental pollution in the country.

He said that an effluent treatment plant costing Rs460 million would soon be operational in Karachi.

The step was being taken for averting pollution threats caused by the industrial sector and to enable the industrial sector to fulfil the international standards effectively, he added.

The government, he said, was making strenuous efforts for introducing pollution-free environment in industrial areas enabling the industrial workers to work in a pollution-free atmosphere.

Tariq Ikram was of the opinion that the business community should also work for improving the internal environmental condition of their industrial units to meet the social and environmental compliance of the global market.

The TDAP chief executive further said that the international buyers had become more conscious about the social compliance, quality and timely delivery of goods.

“Keeping in view the fast changing global economic scenario and rapid changes in business trends, the business community should focus special attention on fulfilling the international demands.—APP
