Misbah case: ICA delayed for a day

Published December 2, 2006

LAHORE, Dec 1: Dr Abdul Basit, the counsel for Tehmina Rana, the sister of Misbah Iram Rana, whose Christian name is Molly Campbell, has delayed for one day the filing of an intra-court appeal in the Lahore High Court.

Dr Basit told Dawn on Friday that the ICA would be submitted to the LHC registrar office on Saturday. The ICA challenges the decision by an LHC’s single bench, comprising Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, who declared on Nov 29 that the British-Pakistani schoolgirl should be sent back to her mother Louise Anne Fairely in Scotland.

Accepting a habeas corpus petition filed by Ms Fairely, the court also directed the girl’s father, Sajjad Ahmad Rana, to hand over the girl to the British High Commission in Pakistan along with her Pakistani and British passports for the purpose of making arrangements for Molly’s travel to the UK within a week.
