PESHAWAR, Dec 1: A robber was killed in an encounter with police in the Bhatta Thall Khwar area on Thursday night, police said.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Capital City Police Officer Habibur Rehman said that the police party accosted a gang of robbers in the Bhata Thall Khwar area and asked them to surrender, but they opened fire.

He said the police returned fire and in the crossfire which lasted 20 minutes one robber was killed and identified the deceased as Anwar, son of Ghulab, a resident of Bara.

The official said that Anwar’s accomplices escaped.

“The accused (Anwar) was involved in various incidents of crime, including the murder of Khattak brothers and ASI Jehanzeb,” he said, adding that a loaded Kalashnikov, seven rounds, three magazines and hand-grenades were seized.—APP
