PESHAWAR, Nov 30: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan on Thursday took suo motu notice of kidnapping of two officials of an NGO and directed the tribal administration of Dara Adamkhel to trace them within a day.

A bench comprising the chief justice and Justice Qaim Jan Khan directed the political naib-tehsildar of Dara Adamkhel to inform the court about the whereabouts of the kidnapped men.

The official had appeared before the bench in another case when the chief justice took suo motu notice of the matter and issued the directives to him.

The chief justice took notice of the issue over reports appearing in different newspapers.

Syed Giyasuddin Gillani and Sohail Bukhari, who are also lawyers, were kidnapped a few days ago from Kohat Road. Their car was found in Mathani area on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

An official of the Mathani police station said the relatives of the kidnapped men had not approached the police station for registration of a case and it was not known from where the men had been kidnapped.

CONVICTION UPHELD: The bench upheld the conviction of a woman charged with drug trafficking.

The woman, Shehnaz of Gujranwala, had been sentenced by an additional district and sessions judge to life imprisonment with fine of Rs50,000.

The bench dismissed her appeal and ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against the appellant. It observed that under Section 9 (c) of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act the punishment available for smuggling more than 10kg of contraband was death penalty or life imprisonment. Police had arrested the accused from the General Bus Stand and seized 12kg of charas from her handbag.

An FIR was registered against her at Gulbahar police station.
