KARACHI, Nov 29: The Board of Governors of Civil Hospital Karachi and Lyari General Hospital has suggested the provincial finance department for early transfer of funds into the account of Maintenance and Repair putting this at the disposal of respective medical superintendents.

The meeting, presided by Chairman Board of Governors Abu Shamim M. Arif, was attended by the medical superintendents of both hospitals and other officials as well as private members of the board.

The board members in their extensive deliberations expressed concern about disparity of Maintenance and Repair funds and regretted that the decision regarding bloc allocation of Rs200 million had not been materialised. The BOG, however, expressed satisfaction regarding the issue of security since the deployment of Pakistan Rangers at the two hospitals.

It was decided that janitorial services for both hospitals would be given on contract on urgent basis and private sector would be involved in the process.

They also agreed that the board would pursue the transfer of doctors from defunct school health services to the two hospitals to meet the shortage of doctors, particularly in the anaesthesiology department of Lyari General Hospital.

It was agreed that a cell would be formed for coordination among various NGOs working for the betterment of Civil Hospital Karachi.—APP
