KARACHI, Nov 28: The by-election on National Assembly NA-250 Karachi XII seat and Sindh Assembly PA-71 Dadu-I seat, which were scheduled for Dec 30, have been postponed.

Provincial Election Commissioner Qamaruzzaman Chaudhry said that the fresh schedule for all stages would be notified later by the chief election commissioner.

The NA-250 had fallen vacant due to the demise of Abdul Sattar Afghani of MMA and PA-71 on the death of Ghulam Nabi Shoro of PPP.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Chaudhry said that the by-polls were postponed on the request of the Sindh government and intending candidates who said that at the time of elections many of their electorates, activists and some of the candidates would have left gone for performing Haj.

However, he said that the nominations which were filed by candidates would remain valid for consideration in other stages of the fresh election schedule.

Before the postponement notification, Capt Haleem Siddiqui and Tariq Hasan of the ruling PML, Nafees Siddiqui and Zulfikar Qaimkhani of PPP, Saleem Zia of PML-N and Engineer Abdul Aziz (Independent) filed their nominations on Tuesday, which was the last day for filing papers.
