KARACHI, Nov 28: The Sindh government is considering to ban the sale of cellphones in weekly bazaars and on pavements, as part of its campaign to curb street crime.

The law enforcing agencies noticed that stolen phone sets are mostly sold at makeshift stalls on footpaths, pavements or weekly bazaars.

The Adviser to Chief Minister on Home Affairs, Wasim Akhar, said: “The home department is seriously considering banning sale of cellphones on footpaths and weekly bazaars.”

He mentioned five towns – Saddar, Gulshan, Korangi, Jamshed and Clifton – where incidents of cellphone theft were on the rise. He asked all those involved in purchase and sale of new and used cellphones to cooperate with government to check cellphone theft as many innocent people had lost their lives at the hands of robbers.
