KARACHI, Nov 24: Thirty two new patients afflicted with viral mosquito borne diseases were brought to eight government and private hospitals in Karachi in the past 24 hours ending at 2pm Friday.

Data provided by the Dengue Fever Cell of the Sindh Health Department reveals the number of dengue related patients was on decline at the city hospitals. Forty patients were admitted on Thursday, 64 on Wednesday and 50 on Tuesday.

Dr Tajammul Baig said till Friday 209 patients suspected of suffering VHF or DF were still admitted in various hospitals of Sindh. Of these 196 patients were in Karachi.

Fifteen patients were admitted inJinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, seven patients at Dr Ziauddin Hospital and six at Liaquat National Hospital. Thirty-five patients were discharged on Friday, said Dr Baig.

According to records, the number of dengue virus affected people admitted in Karachi hospitals has now touched 4,080, of which 1,383 patients have tested positive for dengue fever.

The DFC has documented 42 deaths in the city since June 2006, as reported by hospitals.

The patients’ position in hospitals of the city on Friday was:

AKUH-19 (3 new), LNH-39(6), CHK-7(2), ZUH-29(7), JPMC-23(15), BTH-4(no new), NICH-9 (No new),ASH-44(no new), BH-4 (No new) and Kutiyana Hospital-6(2).
