KARACHI, Nov 21: The overall figure of dengue patients in Sindh since June crossed 4,000 on Tuesday as another 50 people afflicted with the mosquito-borne disease were rushed to 11 government and private hospitals.

Giving details, Dr Tajammul Baig of the Dengue Fever Cell of the Sindh Health Department said the overall situation was stable and the number of dengue or viral hemorrhagic cases would continue to decline.

According to DFC data, 20 new patients were received at Aga Khan University Hospital in the past 24 hours ending at 2pm Tuesday, followed by Dr Ziauddin Hospital and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre which received five patients each.

Other hospitals of Karachi where patients were brought with the history of high grade fever, rash, bleeding and pains included Liaquat National Hospital, National Institute of Child Health, Patel General Hospital, Darul Shifa Hospital, Kutiyana Hospital and Lyari General Hospital.

Of the 3,944 patients admitted in the last five months in Karachi hospitals, 1,366 tested positive for dengue fever, while 42 died at city hospitals. Till Tuesday, 4,047 dengue related patients were admitted to hospitals in Sindh while 46 deaths were reported.

In the meantime, an AKU press release said 30 patients were at present hospitalised with suspected viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF). Of the 690 patients treated since June, 659 were from Karachi, while the others came from Larkana, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Thatta, Dadu, Saeedabad, Nawabshah, Rahim Yar Khan, Gharo, Mirpurkhas, Sujawal, Gilgit, Balochistan and Saudi Arabia.
