QUETTA, Nov 12: The Balochistan government will establish 'medical store depots’ in all districts to provide medicine facilities to patients in far-flung areas of the province.

An amount of Rs40 million is being spent on the project, official sources said here on Sunday.

They said the government was trying to ensure availability of drugs in these depots for people coming to basic health units (BHUs) in their respective districts.

“The government will also establish 21 BHUs in eight districts in the province, including seven in Khuzdar, three in Killa Abdullah, two in Turbat, three in Pishin, two each in Noshki and Bolan, one in Kalat and one in Bolan. In this regard, Rs84.26 million has been allocated for construction of these BHUs,” the sources explained.

The completion of these BHUs will provide basic health facilities to the people living in these districts and they will not need to visit the provincial metropolis for minor treatment.

Besides, the government is also spending millions of rupees for upgradation of various BHUs in other districts, they said.

Referring to the Drug Rehabilitation Centre being constructed at the Eastern Bypass in the provincial capital, they said the government has allocated Rs51.05 million for the project out of which Rs10 million has so far been spent.

The Rehabilitation Centre is being constructed on the order of the Balochistan High Court aimed at providing medical treatment to drug addicts.

The centre will be equipped with modern scientific laboratories and other resources for treatment of drug addicts.

Regarding construction of the Gulistan Town Hospital, the sources said the hospital is being constructed at a cost of Rs135.45 million out of which Rs102 million has already been spent.

The hospital will consist of 50 beds. It will be equipped with the latest machines. Besides, two similar hospitals are also being constructed in Pashtoonabad and Kuchlak in the suburb of the provincial capital.

They said the government is committed to provide basic health services to the people through construction of new hospitals and BHUs and provision of medicines in the province, adding that the government has appointed hundreds of doctors through the Balochistan Public Service Commission.—APP
