KARACHI, Nov 12: A programme was held at the Arts Council on Sunday to celebrate the 162nd birth anniversary of Mohammad Ismail Meeruthi, the most famous figure of Urdu literature for children.

The function was organised by the Children Foundation, at the Arts Council as a part of remembering personalities who made great contributions to children’s literature and reintroducing them to today’s youth.

Ali Hasan Sajid, president of the foundation, said poets like Meeruthi were not being given the importance that they deserved for their contribution to develop young minds to the positive direction of life.

Chief guest Mohammad Dilawar, nazim of Saddar Town, said his administration would support everything which was aimed at leading the children to the traditions of our country and creating immense love in them for Karachi, Sindh and Pakistan.

Mr Dilawar also cut the cake to celebrate the birthday of the late Meerathi. During the proceedings, artist Mansoor Zuberi drew a sketch of Ismail Meeruthi and presented it to the chief guest.—Staff Reporter
