LONDON, Nov 9: Michael Vaughan has said he could yet play in the Ashes series in Australia as his recovery from a knee injury is ahead of schedule.

The England captain believes he will be ready to play in three weeks, giving him a chance of being in contention for the third Test in Perth which begins on December 14.

“I hope to be playing cricket again in three weeks,” Vaughan told a pre-Ashes lunch at the National Sporting Club here.

“I leave for Australia a week on Saturday and I'm going purely to concentrate on rehabilitation.

“The knee is coming on well and by that time I hope to be able to put a call in and say I'm available to play.

“Whether it takes two games, five games or a month to be match fit is up to the selectors.”

Vaughan sustained the knee injury in India during the winter and surgery meants that he missed the entire summer.

He was not considered for selection for defence of the Ashes with the England selectors all but admitting Vaughan would not take any part in the series. - AFP
