LAHORE, Nov 9: The Joint Action Committee of Teachers, Punjab, says the government is continuously ignoring the teachers community and even reducing their rightful privileges in phases.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, JACT leaders Rana Mohammad Arshad, Rana Liaquat, Azam Butt, Jan-i-Alam Khan, Aslam Ghumman, Rana Atta, Malik Ehsan and others said the government had failed to give teaching allowance to teachers, which was announced in the budget. They said other provinces had already started disbursing teaching allowance.
They said the price hike was also affecting teachers in rural areas, and the government should consider offering them conveyance allowance and 45 per cent house rent. They said the government was giving cold shoulder in providing financial relief to teachers.
In order to protest against the government’s failure in providing teachers their due rights, the JACT has decided to observe a token hunger strike in front of the Lahore Press Club on Nov 15 and 16, and a protest meeting at Nasser Bagh on Nov 28.
