MARDAN, Nov 7: Women workers staged a demonstration here on Tuesday against closure of handicraft centres.

They alleged that Tehsil Nazim Ihsan Bacha was responsible for the closure.

The workers took out a procession and gathered at the community centre, where they said the nazim had closed a number of centres, which had left a large number of women in the tehsil municipal administration unemployed. They alleged that the nazim had purchased a new car worth Rs2 million for his personal use while the administration had no fund for development works.

They demanded reopening of the centres and threatened to stage a demonstration in front of the provincial assembly if the demand was not met.
